About Humans of Diplomacy

Hello, I'm Ghita El Khyari — founder of Humans of Diplomacy.

For nearly two decades, I worked in diplomacy, development, and international relations — most of it within the United Nations system. I've served in a Country Office and at headquarters, led global teams, and built and managed a UN Trust Fund. Overall, I contributed to or oversaw more than 100 recruitments across diverse functions and regions.

It was an extraordinary journey — but also one that showed me how opaque and discouraging the system can feel, both to talented professionals trying to enter it, and to those already inside trying to make sense of it.

That's why I created Humans of Diplomacy: to pull back the curtain on international affairs — through honest interviews, real stories, and career guidance that actually works. Because the world needs more good people in these rooms.

I'm also an author. My novels La Négociatrice and La Fondation explore the human side of diplomacy — the tensions, the compromises, and the extraordinary people behind the decisions that shape our world.
